“Adiós” - 2019

The musician, producer and composer Fernando Vacas returns to the cinema for the Spanish movie 'Adiós'. On this occasion, with two themes for the last film of the Hollywood-based Sevillian director Paco Cabezas.

After succeeding in directing episodes of prime TV series such as 'American Gods', 'The Alienist' or 'Penny Dreadful', the Spanish director returns to Seville, his hometown, to bring to the big screen a heartbreaking story, starring Mario Casas ('The Photographer de Mauthausen ',' Contratiempo ',' Grupo 7 ',' Carne de neon '), the two-time Goya winner Natalia de Molina ('Quién de cantará', 'Techo y comida', 'Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados'), Goya nominee Ruth Díaz ('Tarde para la ira'), and Goya nominee Carlos Bardem ('Cell 211').

The accidental death of a girl in the neighborhood of Las Tres Mil Viviendas is the seed of this story of revenge between clans, drug trafficking and police corruption. It is the first time that a production of these characteristics is filmed in these Sevillian neighborhoods. "I have returned to my neighborhood [Los Pajaritos] to make my best film," confessed the director, who filmed again in his home country more than a decade after making a career in Hollywood.

'Adiós' is a drama about redemption that features music by Zeltia Montes, María José Llergo and two songs by Fernando Vacas. A new version of 'Me quedo contigo' by Los Chunguitos, interpreted by Rocío Márquez, and 'Un largo viaje' from Vacas' flamenco opera, performed by Rosalía.

‘Un largo viaje’, interpreted by Rosalía

Vacas signed Rosalía to give voice to 'Un largo viaje', which worked as a preview single of the final edition of his flamenco opera 'A través de la luz'. The song was recorded in Cordoba, in Vacas' eureka studios, and features the guitar of José Antonio Rodríguez and the choirs of Lin Cortés.

“The musician of the film, Fernando Vacas, proposed me his song 'Un largo viaje', performed by Rosalía. It was recorded before the movie but the verses, the lyrics, seemed to be written to illustrate this plot. I like it a lot when at the movies you don't have to explain things because the image and music tell you the story. It is the magic of cinema”, stated Paco Cabezas.

The song was used for the trailer and the final credits of the movie.

‘Me quedo contigo', performed by Rocío Márquez

‘Me quedo contigo', performed by Rocío Márquez, is the protagonist of, possibly, the most emotional scene of the movie. "I wanted the movie to sound pure flamenco. And I have to say that flamenco has not been widely used in Spanish cinema, even if it seems so. Saura used it many years ago, but it has not been given the place it can have. And it is one of the most beautiful things in the movie. I think it's spectacular.” 'Me quedo contigo' is an original theme of 'Los Chunguitos', which became popular again after the 2019 gala of the Goya due to the magnificent interpretation Rosalía made of it.

Soundtracks by Fernando Vacas

Vacas was once again chosen for a movie by producer Enrique López Lavigne and his compant Apache Films. On an earlier occasion, he did so for another Andalusian co-production, 'Tu hijo', by Miguel Ángel Vivas from Seville. López Lavigne has highlighted “the energy” of this film and “the truth of returning to the roots” concerning the director Paco Cabezas.

'Adiós' is a production of Apache Films and Adiós La Película AIE, in coproduction with La Claqueta, in association with Sony Pictures International Productions, and with the participation of RTVE, Movistar +, ICAA, Orange and Junta de Andalucía.
