“Tu hijo” - 2018

Fernando Vacas premieres in cinemas with the soundtrack for Tu hijo (English: Your Son), a 2018 Spanish-French drama film directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Kidnapped, Casa de Papel). The movie stars Jose Coronado, Ana Wagener and Asia Ortega.

The script for Tu hijo was written by the director, Miguel Ángel Vivas, and Alberto Marini. The two previously made the movie Extinction (2015), starring Matthew Fox and Jeffrey Donovan.

Vacas debuts in cinema soundtracks introduced by one of the trendsetting producers of the Spanish industry, Enrique López Lavigne of Apache Films.

The producer, huge fan of the works of Vacas with Prin' La Lá and the flamenco opera "A través de la luz", had been encouraging the musician for years to make the step into cinema and ended up recommending him to the filmmaker Vivas to compose the music of his latest film, the story of a courageous father (Coronado) who decides to do justice on his own.

“They sent me a pre-assembly of the film, I sent them some ideas and the development of the soundtrack began to simmer, as if it was an Andalusian stew,” explains Fernando Vacas.

The film tells the story of Jaime Jiménez (José Coronado), a doctor whose life turns upside down when his 17-year-old son (Pol Monen) is in a vegetative state after receiving a brutal beating in a disco. Given the impassibility of justice, Jaime decides to find the culprits on his own. The film is a psychological thriller about a quest that soon becomes a revenge.

“We wanted to do something risky and powerful for this tough story. Also something different from the music that had previously been used in the films of Miguel Ángel Vivas. It's a custom made suit. The movie is in 2D and it's as if the music takes you to 3D. It moves you.”

Vacas has composed the music that accompanies Jaime, the character interpreted by Coronado. "It's the music that sounds in his head," explains Vacas, who has used the trumpet as the main instrument "because it represents loneliness so well."

The director Miguel Ángel Vivas has directed Kidnapped, Extinction, and been responsible for different episodes of La casa de papel and Vivir sin permiso. With the action taking place in a fairly unknown Seville, the director's hometown that functions as yet another character, the plot is purely dedicated to genre cinema. The film speaks to the viewer of his responsibility as a father or mother in the world in which we live.

Tu hijo is a French Hispanic co-production produced by Enrique López Lavigne (Apache Films), Olmo Figueredo (La Claqueta PC) and Ran Entertainment with the support of ICAA, the Junta de Andalucía, Netflix and Canal Sur. The distribution is carried out by EOne Films Spain.
