La Negra

Amparo Velasco, nicknamed 'La Negra' for her passion for soul and for her skin tone, is an artist born and raised in Alicante, Spain.

She lived her adolescence in America, traveling through Brazil, Mexico and the rest of North America. A kind of initiatory journey that undoubtedly marks her sound. She belongs to that group of young artists who, taking an air of flamenco, have created a particular pop variant that, from the unique contributions of each of them, fuses various musical elements to access the desired sound.

La Negra - “La que nunca” - 2012

Producer: Fernando Vacas, Juan Fernández 'El Panky'

Label: El Volcán

Through its 13 songs, this album by La Negra tells the life story of Yukelé, “a fictional character, genderless, abstract, symbolic and universal, who embarks on a journey from the south to the first world. A bittersweet ending awaits the character when it discovers that what is found in the North is not what one desires, concluding that the best solution is to return to its roots: your only option to regain happiness.”

One of the songs is dedicated to Enrique Morente and another, titled "Celos", features Luis Pastor, a singer-songwriter from Extremadura.

In this album, La Negra is accompanied by both Juan Fernández 'El Panky' as producer, composer and guitarist and Fernando Vacas as co-producer and composer. In addition, the album features collaborations such Howe Gelb on keyboards, the double bass of Thoger T. Lund, Lin Cortés, the Malagasy Kilema, the string arrangements of Isabel Vida and Fernanda Carmona and a selection of musicians from the Ivory Coast who have contributed to a polyhedral sound, just as varied as it is fascinating.

Diverse, emotionally touching through the story told and sensual in the multiethnic cadences, this album gives space to one of the most personal voices of the Spanish scene.
